School Board Endorsements (2026)

At a lively candidate forum on August 5, the Castro Valley Democratic Club voted to endorse School Board Candidates Myla Long (Area 2), Eryka Mathews-Cain (Area 3), and Faith Carroll (Area 4). Candidates needed 28 of 46 possible votes to win the club's endorsement.

Also participating were Daniel Jacowitz, running in Area 3, and Brian Foster, running in Area 4. The five Democratic candidates responded to audience questions about facility funding, screen time policy, teacher recruitment and retention, AI policy, school district boundaries and supporting vulnerable students. They also had provided written responses to the Club's questions. Candidates needed at least 28 of the 46 possible votes to win the club's endorsement.
Only Democrats were included in the Democratic Club event. Other Castro Valley School Board candidates on the November ballot are: Jesus Jacobo and Frederick Regala running in Area 2; Glenn Miller and Kara Tsao Wong running in Area 3; and Joe Grcar running in Area 4.
Area 2 is at the Southwest corner of the School District, bordered by Redwood Road on the East and Somerset and Wilson on the North. Area 3 takes in Palomares Hills and Five Canyons. Area 4 is a huge territory taking in Lake Chabot Park and surrounding areas bordered by Norris Canyon Road near San Ramon, Skyline Drive in Oakland (roughly), and on the Southwest by Ewing, Walnut, Quail and, roughly, Seven Hills Road. Castro Valley voted in 2023 to transition away from at-large elections for trustees, which will make campaigning much less expensive for the candidates and somewhat less expensive for the taxpayers. The first elections for Areas 1, 2 and 5 were in November of 2024. In area 2, Trustee Lavender Lee has stepped down so the 2026 election will fill the remainder of her term (2026 to 2028). The other terms are four years. Dolly Adams (Area 1) and Michael Kusiak (Area 5) will be up for re-election in 2028 along with whoever wins the remaining time in Lavender Lee's Area 2 seat.
